The years are short! I would love to help you preserve your memories with original, handmade, pastel artwork  a really special, one-of-a-kind way to:

  • honor your partner's relationship with your child,
  • capture a moment of connection between your children
  • commemorate times spent at a favorite place in the neighborhood
  • preserve an quintessential, everyday moment of childhood/parenthood that you want to remember
  • give a meaningful gift to a hard-to-shop-for grandparent

I'll use my expressive style to create a keepsake piece capturing the essence of the moment you wish to commemorate, from the photos you supply.*

Process:

  1. You make a slot deposit and then send me some potential reference photos.*
  2. Ignore the automated notification you'll receive saying your order is ready for pickup (the notice is triggered when I mark your slot deposit fulfilled, which I'll be doing to keep commissioned work separate from my fulfillment of prints/cards/etc).
  3. After I review your photos, I'll email you with my thoughts and questions to help me start understanding your vision.
  4. We'll communicate back and forth until I have what I need to put together the quote and project agreement, which I'll send for your review and sign-off. At that point, you'll be asked for a 50% deposit on the total cost of the artwork (minus this initial $100 slot deposit).
  5. Once I receive your 50% deposit and signed agreement, I can get to work on the artwork!
  6. Once I've finished, I'll invoice you for the remaining balance, and then upon receipt of your payment, I'll send you a link to my pickup calendar so you can select a date/time that works for you (or we can make arrangements for shipping if you are willing to accept the risk.**)

Pricing & payment:

Pricing depends on many factors (size of the artwork, number of figures, complexity of the image, medium, turnaround time, etc.) Currently my standard size human subjects pieces (5x7 and 8x10) typically fall in the $1-3K range. Depending on your reference images, a larger size may be necessary to allow for large enough figures, given the size of the pastel medium. After you submit a slot deposit, and we discuss your vision, go over your reference images, and discuss options, I can give you a better quote.

After learning this price range, if you are committed to working together on a project, you can make a deposit on a slot, and then we can start planning! Please note: this deposit is non-refundable (even if you eventually decide not to move forward with the artwork), as I will be spending time with you, going over options and putting together a plan for the artwork.

Before making a deposit, if you'd like my opinion about whether any of your photos will be workable for me, you can email them to me, and I can give you my initial reactions. But to be able to quote your project, we will need to go over some options and discuss your vision further after you submit a slot deposit.

Turnaround/completion time frame:

Currently, you can expect completed artwork within 4-6 months from when we sign a final agreement about the project, which will describe the specs for the artwork in detail. If this time frame changes, I will let you know as we are planning, before you sign the agreement.

*Your reference photos:

After you submit your initial slot deposit, you can email me some potential reference photos. For my approach to pastel artwork, it works best when there are notable/strong highlight and shadow areas, and facial detail is minimal to none ("from behind" images can work well). I typically don't accept projects where subjects are smiling at the camera. Instead, my focus is on capturing moments of connection and interaction between people, or individuals engaged with something (like a book, playing with a truck, etc) See my samples for ideas!

Please note: I am only able to work from photos for which you hold copyright or otherwise have explicit permission from the copyright holder to use in accordance with my terms (see Artist's Rights and Source Material sections below). Accordingly, typically I am unable to use professional photographer images as my references.

**Shipping risk:

Shipping is available but not advised, due to the fragile nature of the pastel medium. I'll be spraying the completed artwork with fixative, but even so, there is risk of smudging.
