Custom Ink House / Building Portrait SLOT DEPOSIT (price listed is 50% of total)

Homes and other buildings can hold so much meaning in our lives! An original, handmade house or building portrait is a really special, one-of-a-kind way to:

• preserve memories of the place you raised your children,
• celebrate the special house you and your fiancé have finally saved enough to buy,
• honor your family's life as your parent prepares to sell your childhood home,
• commemorate the place where you met your partner, or
  
• send your neighbor with a parting gift as they say goodbye to a beloved home.

Erin will use her expressive style to create a portrait capturing the essence of a single home or building you wish to commemorate, from the photos you supply. Lines and ink application will be loose and sketchy (not photo-realistic) to create a vibrant, lively way to remember places that hold special meaning for you!

Please note: this offering is only for individual personal use — ie to hang on your wall at home — and not for commercial/promotional artwork. Reproduction of the artwork without Erin's prior written consent is prohibited. If you wish to reproduce the artwork on personal/wedding stationery, have me make artwork of your business premises, or want to use the artwork for other commercial/promotional purposes, please see below.**

Please read through ALL of the following details to understand this offering before paying the non-refundable 50% deposit. By paying a deposit, you indicate you have read and agree to all of the following, including the Artist's Rights and Source Material sections. Due to the custom nature of the Artwork, all sales are final, and your deposit and balance payment are non-refundable.

Pricing & payment:

• Regular (8x10" matted to 11x14"): $1200 total ($600 nonrefundable deposit due to start the process)
• Small (5x7" matted to 8x10"): $800 total ($400 nonrefundable deposit due to start the process)

*Completion/timing:

You can expect completed artwork within 4-6 months of paying your deposit and submitting your workable photos (whichever comes last). Erin may complete the work much sooner, but she can't forecast or guarantee specific turnaround dates because of the nature of her creative process for this offering.

Upon completion, Erin will send you an invoice for the balance due, and then we will make pickup arrangements. If shipping is needed, we will make arrangements for that upon project completion, and Erin will invoice you for related costs at that time.

NOTE: To help Erin manage her workflow, the terms of this offering are contingent on you submitting workable photos within 30 days of paying your slot deposit. Erin reserves the right to adjust pricing for any projects where photos are submitted after that time, or to cancel the project and return your deposit.

Your reference photos:

After receiving your deposit, Erin will email you some tips for taking better reference photos. Erin is only able to work from photos for which you hold copyright or otherwise have explicit permission from the copyright holder to use in accordance with my terms (see Artist's Rights section below). Accordingly, typically Erin is unable to use real estate listing photos or Google street view images as her main references (though they can be helpful supplemental images).

Neighbor detail:

This offering is for artwork of a single home or building (ie not a row of homes), but if your home is a row house, Erin will plan to include a little bit of detail of the immediately neighboring home(s) (as shown in most of my featured samples), unless you request otherwise when you send your reference photos. Occasionally, a neighbor's tree covers so much of their home so as not to be practical to show neighbor detail, in which case Erin may not be able to include much, if any, neighbor detail.

People & pets, and other inclusions/omissions:

For this offering, Erin is unable to include people and/or pets, as planning for this kind of customization takes significant additional time and would involve higher pricing. Even if your house reference photo(s) include pets or children, Erin will not be able to include them in the artwork within this offering and price point. If you would like artwork capturing a moment between people or people/pets (not house portraits), contact Erin about commission possibilities!

Beyond people/pets, if there are specific things you want to be sure Erin includes or omits (ex: a tree in the front yard, electrical meters by the front steps, etc), please let her know when you submit your photos. Otherwise, Erin will use her judgment based on the photos you submit. She may use artistic license to move or omit tree blockage, eliminate or reposition cars or obstructive street signage from the view, etc. 

Materials:

House portraits will be done on smooth Bristol stock with pigment-based pens, Copic ink, and sometimes additional gel/other pens for accents. Copic ink is a dye-/alcohol-based ink that can fade significantly over time, so Erin will retain a scan of the completed artwork in case you ever want to order a custom print to replace your original. You are advised not to display artwork in direct sunlight, but Copic ink can still fade over time, even without sunlight exposure.

Sizing/orientation:

If you select the 5x7 option, the artwork will be matted in a white acid-free mat with outer dimensions of 8x10 and an opening of approximately 4.5x6.5". If you select the 8x10 option, the artwork will be matted in a white acid-free mat with outer dimensions of 11x14 mat and an opening of approximately 7.5x9.5". 

For each available size, there's a landscape or portrait orientation. Most row homes lend themselves to portrait (vertical) orientation, but Erin will use her judgment as to which orientation makes sense based on the reference photos provided, unless you specifically request one orientation or the other when you submit your photos.

Matting/framing:

Erin will mat each piece upon completion. Matting helps protect artwork from touching a frame's glass, which can otherwise trap humidity and damage the artwork. If you prefer an unmatted piece, let Erin know when you submit your photos.

**Using artwork for stationery, wedding, commercial, or other printed/digital purposes:

If you wish to use the artwork other than to hang the original on your wall at home (for instance, to hang it in your business or for other commercial purposes, print it on personal/wedding stationery, reproduce it to make additional prints, use it as your social media profile image, etc.), contact Erin to make plans for additional licensing (reproduction of the Artwork without Erin's prior written consent is prohibited). But you are welcome to post a photo of the artwork to your social media feed with attribution to Erin (@ErinThompsonStudio) — she loves to see photos of people receiving her artwork, in place on your wall, etc!
